As a volunteer Director, you will have the honor, challenge, and responsibility of representing the membership of the credit union. Below you will find details about the time and energy required to participate as a board member.

Strategic Governance

The Workers Board of Directors brings a diverse set of management skills and experience to our organization from many different industries. The Board is guided by the Workers Strategic Governance model which uses Carver methodology as the framework in combination with industry best practices. The Governance model documents the Board’s role in identifying our strategic vision and the creation of guardrails for management in the pursuit of our business goals. One of your most enriching experiences will be witnessing the impact Workers has on our members and communities as you monitor management’s progress in achieving our envisioned future.

Board Expectations

Serving on the Workers Board of Directors may be one of the most rewarding and valuable decisions you will make. By focusing on strategy instead of tactics, you will be a force multiplier making meaningful contributions to a purpose-driven, service-oriented organization. Workers membership is required and you are expected to bring your valuable talents, passions and areas of expertise to the table as we tackle strategic challenges together.

Time Commitment

  • Monthly Meetings – Every fourth Tuesday, 1½ to 2 hours
  • Monthly Board Meeting Preparation – Videos and printed packet, 1 to 2 hours
  • Quarterly Half-Day Meetings - Discuss Board Governance topics
  • Annually Attend Industry Conferences and Training– 2-3 days
  • Annual Board Strategic Planning Retreat – Offsite, 1 weekend

Candidacy

To express your interest in becoming a candidate for the WCU Board and/or Supervisory Committee, please submit an application by September 16, 2024. The Workers Credit Union Board of Directors has a formal nominating committee responsible for interviewing and recommending candidates to the Board. All candidates must be approved by a vote of the existing Board of Directors.
